The Monson Free Library welcomed Buster to the staff in December 1999. Sadly Buster passed away on May 3, 2006. The Library would like to thank everyone for the support they have given for Buster's food and care throughout the years. Your generous donations were greatly appreciated!

Here is the story of how Buster came to live at the library. Originally, one cold night right around closing time, staff members found a young cat crying outside our door. Of course the cat was brought in for the evening. That one evening turned into 4 weeks. We tried diligently to find his owner but to no avail. By this time we had named him Horatio in honor of Horatio Lyon for whom the original library was named. To all the patrons delight we decided to keep Horatio. Then one day the owner appeared and we were all left with broken hearts.

We needed another cat!

A vet recommended we contact Feline Friends, Inc. a non-profit, no-kill organization in Agawam, Massachusetts. We did and after explaining what we were looking for they suggested we choose an older cat rather than a lively kitten. When we saw Buster we knew we had found our cat!

Noted illustrator and author, Ruth Sanderson, created this image of Buster. The original hangs in the library and the image has been used for Buster's t-shirts and mouse pads.
